Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 To Be Included With Best-Selling Compaq Presario Desktops

MILPITAS, July 24, 2000 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, today announced that Compaq Computer Corporation will begin including Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 software with all Presario PC desktop computers that include a CD-RW drive.

This expands the strong OEM relationship that Adaptec has with Compaq, which has already agreed to ship Presario PCs loaded with Easy CD Creator to the European, Middle Eastern, and African (EMEA) regions. "Our home users have demanded that their PCs take full advantage of recordable CD technology for data protection, home multimedia and other digital music use," said Tony Dowzall, Director and General Manager, Presario Desktop Division, Compaq Computer Corporation. "By selecting Adaptec's Easy CD Creator as the standard CD creation engine for our Presario line, we can assure our users the very best in quality and compatibility, adding to their computing experience."

Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.0 allows users to easily create data, audio and multimedia CDs on their PCs. CD Guide, an animated host, makes it easy for beginners and intermediate users to effectively use Easy CD Creator 4, the most powerful CD recording software currently available.

Users can also upgrade to the Easy CD Creator Deluxe, which further expands the ability of the full-featured Presario by including utilities like CD Spin Doctor, Take Two for system backup and disaster recovery, and Photo Relay for creating photo and HTML albums, as well as video postcards.

In addition to being highly recommended by Personal Computer World, Easy CD Creator 4.0 won EMedia Professional's Editor's Choice award in November 1999. ZDNet also recommends Easy CD Creator v4.0: "It's the best software for writing CDs, and that's what you want. If the computer makes any mistake while it writes the CD, the blank is ruined and can't be used again. So it really pays to get good software." "Adaptec is proud to have developed such a software suite that has become so widely adopted by leading PC OEMs and optical drive manufacturers," said Tom Shea, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Software Products Group. "We see Compaq's multi-continent adoption of Easy CD Creator as strong validation for our technology, coming from the world's number-one PC manufacturer."
